A voice for London’s leaseholders

The London Leaseholders Network (LLN) is a group of social sector leaseholders from about 15 of London’s 32 boroughs who meet every month to discuss mutual issues of concern.

Those issues range from particular problems experienced dealing with social sector landlords to policy recommendations to government.

In the past, LLN members have: served on the government’s social sector working party (SSWP); given evidence to a parliamentary committee examining high bills for major works; and made recommendations to the Residential Property Tribunal Service about changes to the administration of Leasehold Valuation Tribunals.

Currently, LLN has made several submissions to the government committee reviewing the Housing and Regeneration Bill, which is on its second reading in parliament and is likely to have a radical impact on leaseholders’ relationships with their landlords.

One of our aims initially will be to increase our representation among leaseholders in London boroughs.  To that end, we will be seeking funding from central government to support our activities.  LLN is a purely voluntary arrangement.

An important aim will also be to provide a central source of information and advice for London’s 200,000 social sector leaseholders.

However, our key mission is to ensure that leaseholders’ interests are fully represented in policymaking. We aim to influence government policy and legislation.  Indeed, we aim to influence housing policy across the piece from policy research to its party political expression.

LLN’s next meeting will be in mid-January 2008. We meet at Camden Town Hall, near to King’s Cross station.
